Requirements

  • Bring 1–2+ years of engineering management (startup or high-growth org) and know when to coach vs. dive in.
  • Possess 5+ years of backend / systems engineering (Rust, Go, C++, or similar) and can still jump into code for a well-scoped fix or prototype.
  • Have shipped and operated distributed, performance-sensitive systems (queues, caches, databases, pub/sub, low-latency services).
  • Are comfortable hiring, coaching, and occasionally parting ways to keep the bar high.
  • Communicate crisp trade-offs under pressure and keep teams laser-focused on outcomes.
  • Care deeply about developer experience and impacting the Solana & crypto ecosystem.
  • Are excited to shape Solana and broader web3 infra alongside an ambitious team.
  • Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of backend and systems engineers.
  • Set a high technical bar: Lead design reviews, challenge assumptions, and guide architecture of distributed systems, low-latency services, and high-throughput APIs.
  • Hire and grow the team: Own hiring end-to-end for your team with support from founders and recruiting.
  • Work closely with founders to scale the company’s engineering culture, processes, and infrastructure.
  • Execute fast in a demanding environment: Tradeoffs, uncertainty, pressure—we embrace it all.
  • Drive impact on real crypto infrastructure used daily by top Solana teams and protocols.
  • Split your time: 60% engineering management (planning/execution, hiring, team health) 25% technical leadership (system design, mentorship) 15% coding (unblocking critical paths)
